Bienvenue friends! This is Jenna and most of you probably
know about my life as Miss Plus America Elite 2007-08. Since being crowned, I have experienced things I could
only dream of. A lot in my life has changed, yet many things will always remain the same. What won't change
is my dedication to medicine and future as a physician. Being a doctor is for me, my ultimate journey! Second,
my dedication to fitness and health. Afterall, I have lost over 170 pounds. I am still working so hard to lost
that last 50 or more pounds, I work with this everyday! Third, my daughter Kyla who is seven. Single motherhood,
well let's say that it can be as hard as it seems! Overall, I know that I have a great future ahead of me.
Don't get me wrong, there will be struggles and blocks ahead. I know first hand that persistence is great than most
forces in life, without it...I would not be where I am today.
As Miss Plus America Elite and a future physician, I know the crisis
our country is having today concerning the obesity epidemic. Many people have asked me about my stance on obesity and
weight. Although I believe that every person should find joy and happiness within themselves, at any stage in
life. I also believe in fitness and healthy eating at any stage in life. For me, it is not so much your weight
or jean size. As a future doctor, I would want to know if my patient can walk up three flights of stairs without losing
their breath, do they exericise regularly, keep fast food out of their diet on most days?? I think as a country, we
all need to sneak healthy habits back into our life. That means, skip the fries most days, take the stairs, walk 30
minutes EVERYDAY, eat more vegetables than processed foods. Let's be real. We live in a society where convience
is everything! Life has changed for most Americans today. It is time to get back in balance. Our bodies
are designed to move and to be challenged!
With the obesity crisis in the States today, there are other diseases
that are following the trend. Type II Diabetes is strongly correlated with our country's weight gain. Being
a future doctor, I see first hand what Type II diabetes is doing to patients. My campaign of "Put That First Foot
Forward: A Realistic Approach for Type II Diabetes Prevention" is simple. Studies show that by just exercising
30 minutes five days a week and moderate weight reduction is the key to prevention!1 Think about it!
So if you want to know how I lost all the weight and what is going on
in my life, read on....
